Quality Technician, Megafactory
– Tesla
What to Expect The Quality Technician is primarily responsible for evaluating parts produced on various lines (electro‑mechanical components and subassemblies, welding, powder coat, general/final assembly), and end‑of‑line testing in a high‑speed environment, ensuring Tesla standards are met by flagging suspect or nonconforming parts, supporting containment activities, and promoting a culture of quality.

Responsibilities
Guide production teams to properly disposition parts as good for use, need repair, or scrap, while documenting and communicating identified defects, with accountability for escalating unresolved concerns to the quality engineering team and direct manager.
Comprehend current production quality standards, determine if ongoing production meets those standards, and execute efficiently against provided instructions, self‑validate work for accuracy, check the quality of previous operations, and meet critical deadlines, including providing day‑to‑day production support on quality concerns and developing/implementing short‑ and long‑term countermeasures to quality problems while maintaining operational efficiency.
Communicate emerging and trending quality issues to prevent negative impact to the factory, align with the Quality engineering team to support incoming and in‑process quality activities, and verbally provide constructive feedback, define/iterate/document standard work, and suggest process improvements, with ownership for detailed daily record keeping and reporting of quality issues referenced by technicians, engineers, and management.
Construct and maintain strong relationships with members of all nearby teams in multiple departments.
Qualifications
High level of attention to detail, with quick action required, ability to identify and differentiate between several defect types, determine severity and required response, and apply critical thinking skills to engage and troubleshoot new quality issues.
Knowledge in basic measurement and inspection tools (e.g., calipers, torque wrenches, gauges, measuring tape) is a plus; experience with electro‑mechanical components, welding, powder coating, or assembly processes is desirable.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; able to build solid relationships with several teams in multiple departments, and personable effectiveness in a fast‑paced team environment.
