The Physical Therapist provides effective and efficient rehabilitation services to patients and clients in accordance with the APTA guidelines for physical therapy. The Physical Therapist collaborates with healthcare teams that include physicians, occupational therapists, and psychologists.### ### **Core Job Functions:**### 1. Performs evaluations of new patients to include the establishment of goals and appropriate treatment plans. 2. Progresses patients through different levels of treatment within the patient’s maximum capabilities. 3. Documents all evaluations, treatments, and other pertinent patient interactions. 4. Provides relevant education to patients and families regarding medical conditions. 5. Maintains effective communication with all members of the rehabilitation team. 6. Communicates with physicians and their staff to obtain additional information and suggests revisions in treatment. 7. Participates in quality and safety improvement activities. 8. Orients, instructs, and directs work activities for assistants and support personnel. 9. Supervises and instructs physical therapy students according to professional guidelines. 10. Provides or participates in educational programs for staff, patients, and the community at large. 11. Represents the University at non-departmental conferences and seminars. 12. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.### **This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.**### ### **Core Qualifications:**### ### **Education:** Graduate from a doctoral program approved by the APTA, and shall hold a current state license as applicable.
The Physical Therapist shall be responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice according to ATPA guidelines in the full scope of physical therapy services.### ### **Certification and Licensing:** Valid State of Florida Physical Therapist license required. Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements### ### **Experience:** Minimum 10 years of relevant experience required### **Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:**### Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.* Perform evaluation on new patients, establish goals and develop appropriate treatment plans with the patient in accordance with UMH patient care policies and based on standards of practice established by the APTA.* Provide physical therapy treatment in accordance with the established treatment plan effectively and efficiently.
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices.
Skillfully and safely progress patients through the levels of treatment within the maximum capabilities of the patient.* Document all evaluations, treatments and other pertinent patient interactions in accordance with UMH policy.* Provide relevant education to the patient and/or family regarding the patient’s condition and instruction for home activities.* Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, family and other members of the rehabilitation team.* Communicate with physicians and their staff by phone or in writing.
Obtain necessary additional information and suggest revisions in treatment as appropriate.* Use treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.* Maintain a satisfactory level of productivity according to clinical standards and demonstrate willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis and real clinic need.* Participate in quality and safety improvement activities as directed by the Department Director.* Orient, instruct and direct work activities for assistants and support personnel.* Supervise and instruct physical therapy students according to professional guidelines.* Provide or participate in educational programs for staff, patients and the community at large.* Participate in program development and marketing efforts as directed by the Department Director.* Attend non-departmental Grand Rounds in order to represent our department in the MSOM, and accquire information from our larger medical community in order to disseminate relevent information for staff development in physical therapy.* Actively pursue professional growth through affiliation with professional physical therapy associates, workshop attendance and conferences.* Understand and follow all UMH policies and procedures.* Perform other duties as directed by the Department Director.### ***QUALIFICATIONS*** To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
