Plant Nurse (Night Shift) – Simmons Foods
Purpose of the Position
Provide support to employees in the facility by administering First Aid, processing medical paperwork, conducting physical exams and urine tests for substance abuse testing, dispensing over‑the‑counter medication, and following worker’s compensation procedures.
Responsibilities
Provide nursing care & activities, using First Aid equipment for employee health checks.
Provide minor nursing needs to employees on a walk‑in basis.
Perform emergency first aid to all employees who require it.
Conduct all necessary drug screens on pre‑employment and current employees.
Process paperwork for OSHA to meet federal guidelines.
Process and file insurance claims for the facility.
Communicate with all management personnel routinely.
Complete incident reports and investigations as necessary.
Assist with new employee orientation as needed.
Communicate effectively at all levels from employees to management to physicians.
Communicate with doctors and hospitals regarding medical/worker’s compensation claims.
Participate as a member of the team: coordinate work to ensure best practices, attend team meetings, foster cohesiveness, and resolve issues.
Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ operating systems and communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Technical Experience
First Aid, CPR and ability to operate blood pressure equipment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Physical Activities Enter and locate information on a computer; visually verify information often in small print; communicate with customers, vendors, or employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail; present information to small or large groups; work in various temperatures; move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) As required by visiting facility.
Travel Travels domestically to and from multiple facilities or work‑sites.
Industry Experience Preference for poultry or food processing organization.
Minimum Education Must have a current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a practicing state and current CPR certification.
Preferred Education Bachelor’s Degree in nursing‑related field.
