Emergency Department Triage Technician Apply to join Upland Hills Health. Position titled Emergency Department Triage Technician at Upland Hills Health - Dodgeville Hospital Campus.

Hours & Shift: Two part-time positions available (.7 FTE each, 56 hours per pay period). Work shift 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., includes weekend and holiday rotation.

Role Responsibilities

Triage incoming patients, gather vital signs, document initial information, and direct them for care within the scope of practice under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Greet patients, perform limited or focused assessments, record patient vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, pulse and oxygen saturation, identify urgent situations such as stroke & chest pain and alert nursing staff.

Accurately record patient data, vital signs, and care provided.

Prioritize patients, identify critical "STAT" cases and activate protocols for conditions like chest pain or stroke.

Continuously evaluate patients in the ED waiting room, including repeat vital signs; act as liaison between medical team, patients, families to provide status updates and manage wait-room expectations; communicate updates to families and medical staff.

Utilize critical thinking and quick decision-making skills to interpret symptoms and prioritize care.

Communicate clearly and concisely with patients, families, nurses, physicians and other medical providers.

Teamwork: work effectively under guidance of advanced healthcare professionals.

Multi-task: manage care for multiple patients simultaneously.

Resilience: remain calm and provide care in high-stress, critical situations.

Maintain triage and treatment rooms clean, stocked with supplies, and ensure emergency equipment functional.

Perform 12-lead EKGs, point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose), and wound care.

Initiate basic life support measures, including CPR, airway management, and hemorrhage control when necessary.

Assist with patient care based on individual patient needs under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician.

Qualifications

Current Advanced EMT certification or Paramedic certification.

One year of experience in an acute hospital setting or working in an ambulance service.

Current BLS certification.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Excellent communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills.

Ability to work flexible hours including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Ability to work with all contacts using good customer relation skills.

Prior experience using the EPIC medical record system preferred (not required).
