Job Overview
High Voltage Substation Inspector
– WSP, U.S. Location: Amarillo, Texas area and surrounding states. The position may require up to 100% travel. WSP will provide mobilization to and from the project. WSP is seeking an experienced inspector to perform substation inspections and support the department in achieving its goals while maintaining WSP's high-quality standards. Responsibilities
Work as part of a cross‑functional team to execute inspection work; occasionally lead tasks and supervise inspection staff on project assignments. Attend pre‑construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and other attendees. Assist technical staff, project managers, and contractors with risk identification and assessment, and provide input, analysis, and escalation to resolve complex construction or engineering problems. Assist with inspection plan preparation and coordination of field or site work, reviewing staffing, equipment utilization, and time/cost estimates. Provide guidance and training to entry‑level inspection staff. Engage with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspections. Work up to 12‑hour days, 5–6 days a week if the project requires. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications
High school diploma. 5+ years of active field experience. Computer skills for daily and weekly reporting, including photo documentation and proficiency in Word and Excel. Current and valid driver’s license. Proficient in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and comparing them with customer or engineer standards. Proficient in verbal and written communication; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. Ability to prepare detailed reports and present them to the customer in an organized, clear, and concise manner each day. Willingness to travel and stay for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time for a project. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions for up to 12 hours a day. Willingness to wear company‑provided PPE for the entire shift while on site. Capacity to lift a minimum of 50 lbs or more at any given time. Ability to walk 3–5 miles per day across rough terrain or uneven surfaces. Ability to step in and out of a ¾‑ton pickup truck several times a day. Preferred Qualifications
