Final Filing Date: 1/12/2026 Application Methods: Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) By Mail Drop-off Print Job Save Job Job Description And Duties Working under the direction of the Caltrans Maintenance Manager II, the Field Superintendent (CMAS) provides general supervision and oversight of all maintenance supervisors, crews and activities within the assigned area of responsibility. The incumbent directs and coordinates District Field Maintenance and Special Crews, and ensures that all Department safety practices are in compliance with District, Department, State and federal policies. Must have a valid Class C California Driver's License. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Assigns work, gives direction to, and maintains discipline among subordinate crew supervisors; assists subordinate supervisors with implementing work plans and schedules, and with meeting deadlines; assists subordinate supervisors addressing disciplinary issues timely; develops estimates for regular and special maintenance and minor improvement work, which includes extracting and evaluating data from various reports, and assures maintenance activities and projects are within, and do not exceed, funding requirements. Identifies and submits plans for Major Maintenance and Day Labor projects. Maintains compliance with departmental policies among subordinate staff and responsible for verifying that accurate records are input into the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS) by subordinate supervisors, including regular time worked, overtime worked, equipment & material usage. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent exam. Duty Statement . Working Conditions Position is located at: 1450 GEORGE DRIVE, REDDING, CA 96003 This position reports to an office building and is exposed to artificial lighting and forced air and heat. The incumbent will be required to sit at a desk in an office and/or cubicle or open space environment. When traveling, incumbent is required to work in a wide range of sometimes extreme conditions, including heat up to 120 degrees, cold to –15 degrees, strong winds, rain, sleet, and snow. During the winter months the workweek is normally 5/8-hour days. During the summer months, the workweeks may be changed to 4/10-hour days. The scheduling of the 5/8 days or the 4/10 days is at the discretion of District Management. Required to work overtime due to storms, emergencies, special work projects, or when management determines that it is in the best interest of the State to work overtime.
