Job Title CALTRANS HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER (CHMW - Complete Streets Crew)

Job Summary Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Complete Streets Supervisor, the Caltrans Highway Complete Streets Maintenance Worker will operate and service highway maintenance equipment, including light trucks, automobiles, and other equipment requiring a Class C driver’s license. The worker performs miscellaneous labor‑intensive duties for Complete Streets facilities such as sidewalks, crosswalks, bikeways, and also carries out highway maintenance, emergency service, landscape, construction, and related tasks as assigned.

Job Description and Duties The Highway Complete Streets Maintenance Worker will perform tasks typical of Caltrans Landscape and Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker duties for Complete Streets facilities, which may include but are not limited to: sidewalks, crosswalks, and bikeways. The worker is also required to maintain knowledge of all current mandated safety training and standards, policies, practices, and directives, and to comply with all departmental training and safe work practice requirements. Operations may include tasks normally assigned to other classifications, and the worker may be called to provide training on equipment to other employees. Travel to locations and overnight stays may be required to meet department needs.

Working Conditions

Exposure to loud noise, dust, chemicals, extreme weather, great heights, confined spaces, uneven terrain, and vehicle traffic.

Must wear personal protective equipment and follow all policies and procedures.

Work rotating or irregular shifts, including weekends, nights, holidays, overtime, and after‑hour emergencies.

Special Requirements

A drug screening must be passed prior to hire.

A valid, unrestricted Class C driver’s license is required to operate light vehicles and equipment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.
