CRIME SUPPRESSION INVESTIGATOR, SERGEANT
Fulton County – South Fulton, GA (Salary: $69,942.60)
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Four (4) years of experience in law enforcement, investigations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Specific License or Certification Required
Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification, obtained and maintained.
Valid Georgia driver’s license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Demonstrated proficiency in performing essential functions and applying all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Purpose of Classification Supervise and assist Investigators within the Crime Suppression Team in handling unusual or complex situations and investigations.
Essential Functions
Supervise division investigators and support staff; develop plans and enforcement strategies using crime data; coordinate, assign, and review work of sworn and civilian staff.
Evaluate training needs; provide instruction on operations, policies, and procedures; instruct deputies in use and qualification of firearms.
Oversee deployment of personnel and K‑9 units; organize, prioritize, and assign work; ensure subordinates have resources to complete tasks; monitor status and inspect completed work.
Conduct investigations of felonies and misdemeanors within Fulton County; conduct surveillance; perform controlled purchases of illegal narcotics; draft and serve warrants; test substances; meet with informants; conduct high‑risk search warrants; seize property; arrest and transport suspects.
Process crime scenes: obtain photographs, fingerprints, and statements; establish identification; gather pertinent information for court or investigative purposes.
Assist the District Attorney with prosecution preparation; prepare reports; maintain files for felony cases; chain of custody; present completed case files; testify in court as required.
Prepare investigative documentation: training records, legal updates, incident reports, victim/witness statements, consent to search, warrants, criminal histories, citations.
Conduct security checks; answer calls for assistance; respond to hazards while on patrol.
Perform additional related duties as required.
Necessary Special Requirements
Pass background investigation, drug screening, and polygraph.
Pass physical fitness/agility standards (running, sit‑ups, push‑ups). May be required to submit to psychological profile test.
At least 21 years of age; U.S. citizen; high school diploma or GED; noqualifying criminal convictions; clean driver’s record; good moral character; medical fitness per Fulton County Health and Wellness Department.
Complete academy entrance examination as required by Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Act.
Examination & Qualifications
Data Utilization, Human Interaction, Equipment/Tools Utilization, Verbal Aptitude, Mathematical Aptitude, Functional Reasoning, Situational Reasoning are required competencies.
Physical Ability: light lifting (5‑10 lbs); sedentary work at keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: color, sound, taste, odor perception; oral communication.
Environmental Factors: exposure to confined spaces, animal/human bites, firearms, violence, disease, or hazardous substances.
