Job Overview The Signage Paint Prepper is responsible for preparing various types of signs for the painting process. This role involves surface preparation, masking, sanding, cleaning, and ensuring the sign components are ready for painting and finishing. The ideal candidate will have attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, production‑oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation: Prepare signage surfaces for painting by sanding, cleaning, and priming as needed.
Masking and Taping: Accurately mask and tape off areas to protect them from paint overspray, ensuring precise lines and finish quality.
Cleaning and Degreasing: Thoroughly clean surfaces to remove dust, grease, or other contaminants that may affect paint adhesion or finish quality.
Inspecting for Imperfections: Identify and repair surface imperfections such as dents, scratches, or rust to ensure a smooth, even surface for painting.
Material Handling: Safely handle materials, including signs made of metals, plastics, or other substrates, ensuring no damage is caused during preparation.
Paint Mixing Assistance: Assist in preparing and mixing paints, coatings, and primers under the direction of lead painters or supervisors.
Maintaining a Clean Work Area: Ensure the work area remains organized and free of debris, following all safety and environmental guidelines.
Collaborating with Painters: Work closely with painters to ensure smooth transitions between preparation and painting stages.
Quality Control: Maintain high standards of preparation to ensure the final product meets the required specifications and company quality standards.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all company safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), handling chemicals, and operating tools and machinery safely.

Qualifications
Experience: Prior experience in surface preparation, auto body work, or similar roles is preferred.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and quality
Ability to use hand tools such as sanders, grinders, and cleaning equipment
Knowledge of masking and taping techniques
Good understanding of paint types, primers, and surface coatings
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
Comfortable working in a production environment with exposure to paint fumes, dust, and noise
Teamwork: Ability to work well with a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in sign manufacturing, auto body shop, or industrial painting environment.
Familiarity with different signage materials such as metals, plastics, and vinyls.
