Compensation
Starting Pay: $85,072.00, dependent on experience & qualifications, plus a $10,000 sign‑on bonus.
Annual salary increases up to a maximum of $105,685.00 in Step 10.
Pay for Performance Awards up to $4,000 per year.
Incentive pay for education:
Associate’s Degree – $600 annually.
Bachelor’s Degree – $1,200 annually.
Master’s Degree – $1,800 annually.
Additional incentive pays:
Field Training Officer – $1,500 annually.
Field Training Coordinator – $3,000 annually.
SWAT or Crisis Negotiator Assignment – $1,500 annually.
Longevity Pay – $4/month up to $1,200 annually after 13 months of employment.
TMRS – 7% contribution with 2:1 matching funds.
Uniforms, weapons and equipment provided.

80 hours paid vacation annually (up to 160 hours at 11 years with City).

Requirements
Attended a Police Academy or its military equivalent; certified and commissioned as a Peace Officer by a U.S. or U.S. Armed Forces entity.
At least three (3) years of service as a sworn peace officer (or equivalent) with the most recent police agency; must meet all service requirements.
U.S. Citizen.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Stable employment record with no history of conduct that may affect suitability for law enforcement work.
Pass the physical fitness test, oral interview board, polygraph test, and thorough background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
Regularly answered 911 calls for service.
Performed duties comparable to those of an officer with the Sugar Land Police Department, including powers of arrest, in either the Patrol or Investigations Bureau (excluding communications, detention, or courtroom roles).
Reserve police officer status or other unpaid status not counted toward the three‑year service requirement for entry as a lateral.
Possession of TCOLE certificates; candidates who have applied with an expectation of TCOLE licensure and fail to complete within the specified timeframe may be discharged unless they meet other requirements.
Recruitment Process

Physical Assessment and Interview Panel – same day. Pass the Texas DPS 2000‑meter row standard at 50%.
Oral Review Board – deeper interview covering job knowledge and situational reasoning.
Background Packet Submission and Investigation – complete personal history statement to the Training Unit; background investigation conducted.
Polygraph Examination – for candidates passing the previous steps.
Conditional Job Offer – upon passing all steps, candidates will receive a conditional offer and must complete medical & psychological testing before a final offer.
