Full‑time position located in the southwestern Houston area. The City invites law enforcement professionals with lateral experience to apply.
City of Sugar Land Overview Sugar Land is one of America’s safest cities, with a diverse community and a CALEA‑accredited Police Department of over 180 sworn officers.
Eligibility & Requirements
Certified Peace Officer with at least 3 years of service in a single agency.
Must be a U.S. citizen, have a valid driver’s license with a clean record, and no disqualifying conduct history.
Must pass TCOLE in 180 days of application and obtain licensure before first assignment.
Complete physical fitness test, oral interview board, polygraph, and background investigation.
Non‑smokers preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting salary: $85,072 per year + $10,000 sign‑on bonus.
Annual salary increases up to $105,685 (Step 10).
Pay for performance up to $4,000 per year.
Incentives for degrees, certificates, longevity, and assignments (e.g., SWAT).
Based on TMRS with 7% city contribution and 2:1 match.
City‑subsidized health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
Paid vacation (up to 160 hours after 11 years), 13 paid holidays, sick leave, parental leave, and wellness programs.
Uniforms, weapons, equipment, and travel allowance provided.
