Summary A Behavioral Health Technician develops and maintains a therapeutic environment with clients, providing supportive services to individuals experiencing mental health symptoms. Daily tasks include overseeing daily chores, coordinating and transporting clients safely to all daily activities, ensuring timeliness, monitoring and documenting client self‑administration of medications, facilitating therapeutic and life‑skills activities, identifying clients who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, performing random drug screening, and observing and reporting behavior in shift logs.
Duties The Technician: conducts 15‑30 minute round checks to ensure client safety, monitors clients for behavioral changes, observes and documents medication self‑administration, facilitates therapeutic or educational groups, promotes client engagement, provides emotional support to foster a positive environment, prepares and serves meals according to dietary needs, assists clients with daily living skills, keeps facilities clean, documents observations and group participation, communicates effectively with the clinical team, responds promptly in crisis situations, manages incidents according to protocols, plans recreational or skill‑building activities, supports clients in off‑site appointments, and adheres to facility policies, licensing regulations, and confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a Joint Commission compliant setting (e.g., hospital, medical, or detox/recovery environment).
Ability to read and understand the English language.
Possession of a current and valid CPR and First Aid certificate.
Valid California driver’s license.
Able to stand, stoop, bend, squat, and reach for the purpose of performing job duties.
Ability to lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds; should ask for assistance and use a dolly or cart for any heavy items.
Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination for the performance of job duties.
Experienced in self‑administration medication process.
Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of seizures, pain, high anxiety, low and high blood sugars, or a critically dangerous medical emergency.
Ability to perform cooking and cleaning duties.
Able to stand and walk most of the working day and physically perform other job duties.
Recovery individuals must have a minimum of two years clean, sober, and abstinent to be considered for employment.
