Overview
The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is a Gold-Level Veteran Friendly Employer. This role manages the Office of Training and Recruitment and the Green Oaks Training and Professional Development Center, a 180‑bed dormitory and gun range. The position directs all new employee and in‑service training, recruitment and hiring of Corrections Officers and serves as Executive Secretary to the Michigan Correctional Officers Training Council. Responsibilities
Manage and administer the Office of Training and Recruitment and the Green Oaks Training and Professional Development Center. Direct and supervise the Training Division Support, In‑Service, New Employee, Recruitment and Ordnance Sections. Oversee all new employee and in‑service training, recruitment and hiring of all new Corrections Officers and the overall recruitment for positions in the Department. Serve as the Executive Secretary to the Michigan Correctional Officers Training Council and the Department’s representative on various training councils and committees. Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major. Two years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience. High school completion and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement supervisory experience at the 15 level may substitute for the education and experience requirements. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Knowledge of human resources hiring processes. Knowledge in the development and delivery of training curriculum. Ability to supervise, evaluate, and motivate employees. Thorough knowledge of Department policies, procedures, and practices. Required Documents
