Job Description and Duties Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Leadworker is responsible for overseeing and working with a maintenance crew engaged in maintaining the highways and related facilities.

Incumbent must possess a Class B license and may operate specific equipment required for the class. Incumbent may be assigned to perform non‑leadworker duties as part of their normal assignment.

To help the Department with scheduling, incumbent may be asked to work alternate work shifts such as 9/80, 4/10 or night work.

Position is located in Monterey. Translation Services available upon request. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker exam. If you do not have current eligibility, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for this position.

Special Requirements

Valid unrestricted Class B commercial driver’s license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

Eligibility Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have L list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility. SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; other eligible individuals may be considered if no SROA or Surplus candidates apply.
