Job Description & Duties
Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, oversee and work with a maintenance crew engaged in maintaining highways and related facilities.
Possess a valid, unrestricted Class B commercial driver’s license (with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement) and operate equipment required for the class.
May be assigned to perform non‑leadworker duties as part of the normal assignment.
Support scheduling by working alternate shifts (e.g., 9/80, 4/10, night work) as requested.
Translation services available upon request.
Working Conditions Incumbent will be working outdoors most of the day in all weather conditions, performing physically demanding tasks that require stamina, agility, and strength. Potential exposures include sunburn, poison oak, insect bites, loud noise, dust, chemicals, vehicular traffic, and hazardous materials (e.g., insecticides, herbicides). Workers may operate heavy equipment and may be required to work rotating or irregular shifts, including nights and emergency crew activities triggered by storms or floods.
Minimum Requirements
Valid, unrestricted Class B commercial driver’s license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.
Possession of a valid driver’s license for operating state‑owned or leased vehicles.
Eligible for the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker examination (or current candidates with list/LEAP/SROA eligibility).
Certification of education, license, or certificate as required; unofficial transcripts accepted for evaluation.
