Academic Requirements
Registered Nursing License – required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing – preferred
Certifications
Good standing as a licensed Registered Nurse with the Texas Board of Nursing
Current BLS certifications (PALS preferred)
First aid
CPR
Language Requirements
Fluent in English
Fluent in Spanish
Work Experience
Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse
Two (2) years of management experience
Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables
Meet and maintain all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
Develop medical clinic staffing schedules and assignments, and provide solutions to resolve staffing gaps.
Provide medical staff with the necessary training to ensure competence in assigned positions and compliance with all quarterly, bi-annual, and annual program training requirements.
Validate the completion of all nursing duties relevant to this position in compliance with all regulatory authorities and program protocols.
Supervise, direct, and oversee site medical staff to execute medical services reflected in healthcare plans and treatment orders.
Communicate with pharmacies on ordering prescription medications, check medication deliveries for accuracy and compliance with doctor’s orders.
Effectively communicate, consult, and interact with the Deputy Executive Director for Medical Services and the Executive Director on policy and procedure issues.
Maintain adequate over-the-counter medication supplies and arrange proper disposal of unused and expired medications.
Maintain documentation of controlled drugs and reconcile all scheduled drugs used in the facility.
Provide required facility documentation and reporting to meet Compass Connections, federal, and state guidelines within required timeframes.
Oversee the development of the medication administration record (MAR) for each child and audit MARs.
Arrange the transport of children to health care appointments.
Participate in the development of health and medical-related protocols and procedures for the federal program.
Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions, and operations.
Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA and PHI requirements.
Apply positive behavior management techniques, including verbal redirection, de‑escalation, and containment.
Recognize signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting, and documenting procedures.
Show appreciation and affection toward children in a compassionate and professional manner.
Adhere to scheduled hours of position, remain available for on‑call scheduling, and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work using sound judgment.
Implement Compass Connections safety protocols, including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
Maintain Compass Connections’ professional and ethical standards of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook.
Other Responsibilities
Perform and supervise medical staff to perform nursing duties at designated site(s), ensuring all required duties meet or exceed nursing guidelines and best practices established by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Supervise, direct, and train medical staff, coordinating services following state and federal policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Implement and monitor established health care plans prescribed by an advanced practice provider or physician.
Maintain accurate documentation for designated sites in accordance with agency policies, contract and regulatory requirements.
Review, write, and update medical protocols and procedures in collaboration with Medical Services.
Meet all pre‑determined deadlines required by the program and federal partners.
Additional Requirements
Pass a pre‑employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
Pass a pre‑employment and biennial criminal background check.
Demonstrate ability to respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, and professionals.
Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
Work in a fast‑paced environment, maintain emotional control, and make decisions based on program needs.
Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures.
Complete and sign the Operations Policy and Procedure review and certification.
Provide current physical‑medical release and proof of immunizations, titers, or declinations for the following: MMR, Varicella, HepB, HepA, Tetanus, PPD, Meningococcal (preferred).
Perform physical activity such as extensive walking, lifting patients, stretching, and bending.
Work in a team environment and maintain professional people skills.
Compass Connections is committed to following immunization recommendations produced by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). All employees are required to receive an annual Influenza vaccination or obtain an approved exemption as a medical or religious accommodation.
