Responsibilities

Respond to emergency calls and determine and initiate appropriate emergency care in the pre‑hospital setting, in consultation with a physician or physician assistant.

Prompt response to all ambulance calls; control at the scene.

Provide prompt and efficient care of the patient before transport; prepare for transfer; orderly transfer of the patient to a medical facility.

Maintain radio communication with the hospital; administer medications or procedures as directed by physician and protocols.

Perform CPR and defibrillation through ACLS protocol; perform all duties of EMT.

The MICT operates the ambulances and performs ambulance transfers for emergency and non‑emergency purposes. Responsibilities include maintaining the ambulances in a readiness state by replenishing medical supplies and equipment, checking vehicle mechanical readiness, and ensuring the ambulances are cleaned and serviced as required.

In the emergency room, the MICT, within the scope of certification and as directed by the ER nurse, PA, or physician, provides patient care, first aid, emergency care, and assists during exams and procedures. The MICT transports patients to appropriate departments/nursing units and keeps ER rooms and equipment in readiness for patients. The MICT performs limited duty in the hospital as time allows, such as patient transfers. Patient care is delegated as appropriate.

MICTs are responsible for a core set of competencies applicable in the field and Emergency Department settings, with care given in accordance with established standards and protocols, policies and procedures, and consistent with applicable Federal, State regulations and EMTALA regulations and professional ethics. Specifically designated MICTs are responsible for ambulance reports and records, and MICT/EMT continuing education and certification (Training Officer). Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Expected to work varying hours, holidays, weekends, and take call.

Qualifications

Current Kansas Paramedic license or ability to obtain licensure per Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services regulations.

Current valid driver's license with no restrictions limiting driving.

Obtain RQI BLS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 3 months of hire) and meet quarterly RQI requirements.

Obtain RQI ALS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 6 months of hire) and meet quarterly RQI requirements.

Obtain RQI PALS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 6 months of hire) and meet quarterly RQI requirements.

Preferred: PHTLS certification.

Experience

Preferred, but not required.
