Job Description

EMS DRIVER - FIRE GROUND RESOURCE TECHNICIAN

Annual Compensation - $55,952.44 Compensation breakdown: (Base salary 54,861.04 + $1,091.40 FLSA overtime) The Southaven Fire Department is currently accepting applications for EMS Driver from individuals who meet the following requirements:

Applicants are preferred to be a Nationally Registered EMT and/or be able to gain reciprocity to the State of Mississippi Health Department for EMT in a timely manner.

Applicant must obtain and maintain a MS EMS Driver License in order to drive an ambulance and/or other department vehicle under routine and emergency conditions.

Applications are only accepted via the City of Southaven website or at the reception desk on the first floor.

The EMS Driver assists the Paramedic with care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by Medical Control Physician and local and state protocol:

Safely drive/operate EMS vehicles in routine and emergency response in accordance with state law.

Provide patient care compliant with department protocols and medical direction as needed.

Performs daily check of EMS vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness.

Must be physically capable of lifting patients, with assistance, place on stretcher and load into ambulance.

Must have good communications skills and effectively use radios as required by SOGs.

Assist with cleaning and disinfecting ambulances and equipment as needed.

Must function as a Fire ground Resource Technician as required when dispatched to fire related incidents. This will include education of fire apparatus, tools and equipment.

Must maintain patient information confidentiality as required by HIPAA.

Have the ability to follow and apply the department SOG’s and EMS Protocol.

Must be able to learn and assist with ancillary fire ground operations up to level of training which may include basic auto extrication techniques, hazardous materials awareness & operations, rehab of personnel and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

Must be successful in obtaining a MS State EMT basic or higher certification . (Department allows one year from time the class is offered to complete certification.)

Must have knowledge of streets, block numbers and be able to pass a map test within 90 days of employment.

Must know location of all destination hospitals and their ER locations on campus.

Must obtain and maintain a valid State EMS Driver’s license.

Must be capable of lifting 175 pounds with assistance from ambulance partner using good lifting procedures.

Must maintain a professional image and positive attitude to meet the department’s expectations, as described in the department’s SOGs and city handbook.

Other Duties:

Must perform in a team concept within a structured organization.

Must function in a firehouse setting, participating in all functions required to operate and maintain the station and equipment in a ready status.

May perform strenuous or peak physical effort during emergency situations, physical fitness training or other training activities.

Act effectively and efficiently in emergency and stressful situations.

Follow verbal and written instructions.

All candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED equivalent. All candidates will be required to pass a DOT physical examination, drug screen, and background check.
