Working Title Adjunct Faculty Member - College of Arts & Humanities - Chinese Appointment Type Adjunct Purpose Of Position Have you considered the exciting intellectual challenges of teaching high‑ability students at Christopher Newport University? The CNU College of Arts and Humanities is accepting applications from prospective adjunct faculty members to teach individual courses, as needed, in Chinese in Spring 2026. Along with demonstrated ability for excellent teaching, candidates must hold an earned graduate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevant discipline, with 18 completed semester hours of related graduate course work. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire. Candidates for hire are required to complete a CNU sponsored background check. Departmental Information The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) at Christopher Newport University is composed of 16 teacher-scholars who are committed to undergraduate education and to professional growth. The Department offers instruction in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, ancient Greek, Italian, Latin, and Spanish. Our programs include five majors, four interdisciplinary minors, and MAT degrees in Spanish and ESL. We are also strong supporters of study abroad: MCLL has sponsored numerous short‑term study trips and, in conjunction with the Office of Study Abroad, advises students on longer‑term language immersion opportunities. In addition to serving our majors and minors, MCLL has the privilege of working with a significant portion of the student body through the second language literacy requirement in the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum. MCLL faculty members publish on a diverse range of subjects and welcome the opportunity to mentor students on independent research projects.
