Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Design Engineering Services Manager, the Senior Transportation Engineer supervises staff and directs operations of the Office of District Office Engineer in the Division of Design.
Supervises and coordinates preparation of quality final plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for all projects, including Major, Minor A, and Highway Maintenance projects.
Ensures compliance with State and Federal statutes related to construction contracts.
Coordinates project schedules and delivery with other divisions.
Co‑ordinates with Division of Engineering Services – Office Engineer for advertising and award of quality projects.
Recommends approval to the District Director on all aspects of contracts processed under the Authority to Advertise District Delegation (AADD).
Provides in‑depth comprehensive reviews of all technical documents related to delivery of quality PS&E packages for ready‑to‑list (RTL).
Ensures all documents meet professional standards and departmental policies.
Offers technical advice and procedural guidance to subordinate engineering staff.
Attends Contract for Delivery Status Meetings and performs Task Management activities relevant to resource expenditures and adherence to the project capital and support budget.
Minimum Requirements
Valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Valid driver’s license if operating state‑owned or leased vehicles.
Receipt of State Examination/Employment Application STD 678 and relevant documents (e.g., transcripts, license, certificate).
Verification of possession of minimum qualifications prior to interview and/or appointment.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating state‑owned or leased vehicles.

Working Conditions Position located at 464 W. 4th St., San Bernardino, CA 92401, San Bernardino County.
Employee works in a climate‑controlled office under artificial lighting. Occasional travel and field investigations may involve exposure to moving traffic, dust, dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, or extreme heat or cold. Telework is available at the discretion of the Department. Employees must be able to report to the worksite with minimal notice if an urgent need arises.
