Corrections Program Specialist – DHS-DCR – Eastern Regional Jail, Berkeley Co.
Salary:
$40,702
(minimum special hiring rate).
Key Responsibilities:
Act as ACA Accreditation Manager for a caseload of facilities within the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Develop and maintain a division-wide auditing method to ensure operational compliance with agency policies and the American Correctional Association standards.
Prepare action plans and after‑action report criteria for division-wide use.
Perform on‑site reviews, including verification of records, logs, routine operations, and conditions; conduct staff interviews and other confirmation methods.
Serve as a member of the audit team that performs audits and provides training regarding agency policies and compliance indicators.
Assist the Agency Director of Correctional Policy and Compliance by researching legislation, applicable statutes, rules, standards, and case law and consulting with subject‑matter experts.
Travel to Eastern Regional Jail, Martinsburg Correctional Center, and Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center as required.
Pay Differential (for Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities per SPB 3088, effective 10/7/23):
$5,000 added to minimum starting pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility.
Annual base building pay differential of $250 after one year of service.
Employee leaves a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility without transferring: differential removed.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or a related behavioral or social science field.
Two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid professional experience in corrections, probation/parole, law enforcement, social work, recreation, or related behavioral or social science field.
Alternatively, applicable substitution of graduate coursework at a rate of 15 semester hours for each year of required experience.
Additional full‑time or part‑time paid experience may substitute for training at a rate of one year of experience for every thirty semester hours of required training.
