Patient Access Assistant – Part‑time Purpose Provides patient‑focused customer service. Performs outpatient and/or inpatient registration and insurance verification functions; collects patient financial liability payments and ensures that patients meet financial requirements including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre‑certifications, and referrals. Provides general information to hospital users, patients, families and physician offices.

Essential Functions

Researches, collects and analyzes information; identifies opportunities, develops solutions, and leads through resolution.

Collaborates on performance improvement activities to improve program efficiency and patient experience.

Responsible for the distribution of analytical reports.

Utilizes multiple system applications to perform analysis, create reports and develop educational materials, ensuring quality, confidentiality and safety.

Demonstrates knowledge of departmental processes and procedures and acquires new knowledge readily.

Researches and compiles information to support ad‑hoc operational projects and initiatives.

Synthesizes and analyzes data and provides detailed summaries including graphical data presentations illustrating trends and recommending practical options or solutions.

Leverages program and operational data and measurements to define and demonstrate progress, ROI and impacts.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws / regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of Conduct and other policies, procedures & guidelines.

Functional Roles

PAR I

– Entry level, minimum 1 year of customer service experience. Patient Access experience preferred.

PAR II

– Performs PAR I role and is cross‑trained to Pre‑Service, Emergency Department and/or Bed Desk. Requires minimum 2 years of hospital registration or insurance verification experience, knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding & procedural coding, and ability to explain insurance benefits.

Patient Access Account Specialist

– Requires 2+ years of hospital registration or insurance verification experience. Uses specialized knowledge to support key areas, apply data, research analysis and problem‑solving skills. Analyzes, processes and edits for correctness based on payer guidelines; resolves items, ensures accurate claims billing and timely payment processing.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification required within one year of hire.

Additional Qualifications (Nice to Have)

Medical terminology, diagnostic and procedural coding knowledge.

Insurance verification with ability to explain benefits and secure necessary authorizations.
