The Safety Coordinator supports the company-wide implementation of Big Creek Lumber’s safety systems and programs in alignment with our mission to ensure the safest possible work environment. This role is highly visible and employee-facing, requiring strong communication, organization, and genuine care for people and safety. The Coordinator will focus on maintaining compliance, coordinating training, supporting employee-led safety committees, and reinforcing our culture of engagement and continuous improvement. By keeping established systems running smoothly and helping to improve them over time, the Safety Coordinator ensures that employees remain safe, supported, and engaged. Major Duties and Responsibilities

Training & Compliance

Coordinate and track all safety training (compliance and job-specific), ensuring completion within required timelines. Support onboarding of new employees, ensuring safety and compliance training is completed promptly. Maintain accurate training binders and digital records for Cal/OSHA and internal audits. Deliver or support engaging training sessions using in person and online mediums, Safe Work Methods, Depth of Knowledge (DOK) quizzes, and other interactive tools. Safety Committees & Engagement

Help coordinate quarterly Safety Committee meetings at each location. Provide logistical and administrative support (meeting materials, facilitation tools, action item tracking). Encourage participation and feedback from employees to drive practical safety improvements. Support recognition programs (merchandise, meals, events) to celebrate safe behavior and hazard reporting. Injury & Incident Support

Assist in managers prompt response and documentation of injuries and incidents. Assist supervisors and managers to complete incident reports, investigations, and root cause analysis. Ensure flash reports and lessons learned are distributed around the company where applicable for use in morning meetings. Ensure all documentation for workers’ compensation gets to HR in a timely manner Coordinate with HR on workers’ compensation cases to assist in communication and support for employees and managers where needed. Workplace Safety Programs

Support safety committees Quarterly Facility Condition Reports and ensure follow-up on identified hazards. Support completion and review of Daily Equipment Condition Reports (DECRs). Assist managers in ensuring proper use of PPE and access to safety equipment. Oversee and update emergency preparedness programs, including evacuation drills and fire prevention training. Maintain compliance programs, including but not limited to respiratory, fall arrest, industrial hygiene, and more. Data & Reporting

Track and report on leading and lagging indicators (training compliance, Day’s Away, Restricted or Transferred (DART), Temporary Authorized Work (TAW) assignments, committee engagement, Quarterly Facility Condition Report (QFCR) audits). Publish and share branch-level Safety Scorecards. Help analyze incident trends to inform improvements to training and systems. Administrative Duties

Maintain safety documentation and support clear communication of goals and expectations. Provide input and updates for company-wide safety communications. Maintain up to date company plans and policies Support continuous improvement of safety systems, tools, and processes. Stay up to date on new regulations that may affect workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations. Experience and/or Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred. 2+ years of experience in safety, training, or operations support role (industrial, construction, or manufacturing) preferred. Working knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations. Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn safety documentation systems. Ability to travel to company locations and work a flexible schedule as needed.
