Caltrans District 3 is hiring a CALTRANS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II. This role is classified under JC-503303 and offers a monthly salary of $4,883.00 to $6,127.00.
Job Description and Duties Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Leadworker, the Caltrans Equipment Operator II operates and services highway maintenance, landscape, or construction equipment. Duties include:
Drain and culvert cleaning and inspection.
Shaping ditches and slope erosion protection.
Operating, maintaining, and performing minor repairs on various types of equipment.
Travel overnight up to 75% of the time as part of a District‑wide storm water crew.
Current work hours: 4/10 shift (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Thursday).
Working Conditions Work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. The position is physically demanding and requires stamina, agility, and strength. Exposures may include sunburn, poison oak, snake and insect bites, noise, dust, chemicals, and vehicular traffic. Work may involve night shifts, emergency storm or flood situations, and confined spaces. The environment is wet and muddy during drain cleaning, requiring rain gear.

Valid California Drivers License (CDL) – provide number, class, expiration, endorsements, and restrictions.
Drug screening clearance before hire.
Unrestricted Class A commercial driver’s license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.
