Summary Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and modification of State and Federal buildings and equipment within the Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services.

Responsibilities

Perform general mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance to keep facilities in safe working order.

Change light bulbs, ballast and electrical fixtures; disconnect, disassemble, clean and replace worn parts on a variety of mechanical equipment.

Lubricate moving parts; replace filters, worn belts and other parts.

Unstop lavatories and replace or repair plumbing fixtures.

Perform structural tasks such as installing door locks; repair walls, doors and exterior structural damage; replace floors, doors, screens and partitions.

Repoint brick, concrete and stone structures and appurtenances to maintain masonry portions of departmental facilities.

Paint interior and exterior parts of buildings to maintain appearance standards.

Perform landscaping duties to care for lawns, shrubbery, flower gardens, trees, roads, and parking lots using hand and power tools and motorized equipment.

Perform custodial tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing floors; dusting and cleaning offices, kitchen areas and drill halls; washing windows, walls, mirrors; cleaning, sanitizing and deodorizing rest areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after high school in carpentry, electricity, painting, plumbing, masonry, sheet metal work, welding, auto repair or related trade.

Valid driver's license.

Must be able to satisfactorily undergo a State Police records check.

Must be in good physical condition with normal strength and agility to perform actions such as lifting, bending, climbing stairs/ladders.

Must report to job site or be on standby during emergency situations such as snow, inclement weather or building emergencies; overtime in support of snow removal operations is mandatory.

Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 1+ year of relevant education and experience may be considered and hired in trainee status for this position.

Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the building and grounds maintenance trades area.

After-Hire Requirements Must pass a National Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) within 12 months of hire and be eligible for renewal as a condition of employment.
