Phlebotomy Technicians serve a more vital role than ever before in the care of patients, thanks to increasing demands to provide patient samples for diagnostic testing. Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening, so it takes a skilled Phlebotomy Technician to put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens./ppA caregiver in this position works days, from 6:30am3:00pm or 4:00am12:30pm./ppA caregiver who excels in this role will:/pulliPerform blood collection for extended care clients and provide service to their residents, (primarily geriatric)./liliPerform specimen processing and send-out tasks, such as accessioning and packaging for transport./liliFollow proper protocol when collecting samples, such as introducing yourself, verifying patient identity, collecting specimens for all tests listed on the requisition, clarifying tests, labeling specimens, transporting and centrifuging./liliProvide STAT, scheduled and routine orders./liliEnsure all current demographic and insurance information is obtained and verified./liliCheck appropriate paperwork for each test, patient and/or client./liliComplete and submit appropriate administrative paperwork, such as time and mileage reports./liliFollow proper laboratory safety procedures./liliBe flexible to work a varied schedule as required, including early morning and afternoon shifts, and travel to patient locations./liliCarry an on-call pager on assigned weekdays and every other weekend during the hours of 4AM midnight, answer the pager within 15-30 minutes, arrive at the home within an hour, collect stat draws and have the specimen back to the lab within 2 hours from the time receipt of call./liliAdhere to HIPAA guidelines./li/ulpMinimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:/pulliHigh school diploma or GED/liliOne year of current phlebotomy experience/liliProof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (before hire or will obtain within three months of hire)/liliA current, valid drivers license and personal liability insurance coverage with the limits of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident on bodily injury and $100,000 in property liability damage/liliExperience and proficiency in blood collection from all patients/liliExperience in handling and transporting laboratory specimens, laboratory safety, medical terminology and laboratory waste management/liliWorking knowledge of clinical laboratory and tests performed/li/ulpPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:/pulliGraduation certificate from a formal accredited phlebotomy program/liliASCP phlebotomy certification/liliTwo years of current phlebotomy experience/li/ulpPhysical Requirements:/pulliRequires frequent standing and walking./liliManual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements./liliVisual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors./liliThis position is primarily traveling in nature./liliThe average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds./liliWork requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination./liliWorking irregular hours including On-call hours./liliExposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions./liliPushing and pulling heavy objects./liliPosition requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing./li/ulpPersonal Protective Equipment:/pulliFollow standard precautions using personal protective equipment./li/ulpPay Range/ppMinimum hourly: $19.25/ppMaximum hourly: $29.30/ppThe pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
