On our team, you will provide stellar care at one of the top healthcare organizations in the nation./ppThe Phlebotomy Technician is an integral member of the medical laboratory team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients. Phlebotomy Technicians also facilitate the collection and transportation of other laboratory specimens (e.g. urine). Very often the patients only contact with the medical laboratory is with the Phlebotomy Technician. Many patients, from children and teens to adults, often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn is frightening. It takes a skilled Phlebotomy Technician to put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens./ppThis is a PRN position with caregivers working evenings between 2:30 p.m. 11:00 p.m. with weekend requirements./ppA caregiver who excels in this role will:/pulliPerform blood collection procedures, follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets./liliVerify order requests and identifying information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit./liliLabel all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area./liliPerform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging./liliPick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies./li/ulpMinimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:/pulliHigh school diploma or GED/liliTechnical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques and common practices/li/ulpPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:/pulliFormal phlebotomy certification/liliPrevious phlebotomy experience, or graduate of a preferred phlebotomy school/li/ulpPhysical Requirements:/pulliRequires frequent and long durations of standing and walking./liliVisual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors./liliManual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements./li/ulpPersonal Protective Equipment:/pulliFollows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required./li/ulpThe policy of Cleveland Clinic Health System and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic Health System) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our caregivers and applicants for employment in our drug free environment.
