Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician I
Milwaukee Rescue Mission is seeking an experienced full‑time Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician I to serve at our two campuses in Milwaukee. This position performs repair and general maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment for staff, guests, students and visitors. The primary location for this position is our Central Campus, but the role will work at both locations as needed.
Hiring Range $27.63 – $29.09 per hour based on experience
Work Schedule Full‑time, 1st shift, Monday–Friday
Primary Location Central Campus – 830 N 19th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53233
Responsibilities
Perform repair or general maintenance work including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and painting
Prioritize and respond to maintenance requests in a timely, professional manner
Assist the Facilities Manager in proactively identifying and assessing common building‑related issues
Perform routine preventative maintenance and other tasks as directed
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Five or more years of building maintenance or related experience strongly preferred
Strong working knowledge of common building systems, structures, and appliances
Proven experience operating a variety of equipment, hand tools, and power tools
Physical ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, handle, grip, lift up to 80 lbs, and use a cart or dolly
Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
Capacity to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
Effective communication with staff, contractors, students, visitors, and peers
Ability to supervise other maintenance and custodial staff as needed
Valid driver’s license with good driving record
Reliability, dependability, and punctuality expected
Workplace demeanor consistent with a Christian church environment: civil, respectful, polite, and responsive
Agreement with and subscription to the MRM Statement of Faith and the MRM Statement of Biblical Convictions
Committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, evident in personal testimony and Christian conduct
Pass a pre‑employment background check and drug test
