Patient Access Representative (Full Time)

Overview The Patient Access Representative is responsible for pre‑admitting and admitting patients to the hospital, either during a face‑to‑face interview or over the phone. This position verifies insurance benefits, provides estimates for services, obtains ABN forms, and collects money at the time of service. The role requires exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as compassionate and professional communication with patients and hospital staff.
Education Experience or training in a healthcare office setting and customer relations. Must possess a high‑school diploma or equivalent.
Experience Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, departments, and the public; prioritize work and meet deadlines; handle multiple tasks simultaneously; focus in a busy environment; use common computer systems and business software.
Skills and Responsibilities
Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the personal, financial, medical, or employment status of a patient and their families.
Admit patients by accurately interviewing them, obtaining all demographic and insurance information in a timely manner, and typing this information into Evident software.
Explain insurance benefits, deductibles, co‑insurance, and discounts to patients at the time of service.
Educate patients on the financial policies of the hospital and direct them to appropriate resources as necessary.
Understand payors with whom the hospital is contracted for managed care discounts, billing, and out‑of‑state Medicaid patients.
Collect patient payments.
Compensation $18.90 – $22.00 per hour, DOE.
Physical Requirements Occasionally (0–33 %): standing, changing position, reaching across midline, crouching/squatting, stooping, stairs, lifting (0–20 lb), carrying (0–20 lb), pushing/pulling (20–50 lb). Frequently (34–66 %): walking, sitting, handling, fingering. Continuously (37–100 %): see with corrective eyewear, hear clearly with assistance.
Schedule Shift: day. 8–10 hour shifts. Status: full time.
