Compensation $23.86 to $26.25 hourly. Salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
Job Overview Performs experienced technical work inspecting utility construction projects to observe and document whether contractors perform all work in accordance with the Department Criteria, the approved project drawings, and the specifications.
Requirements
Two (2) years (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) of college‑level credit with major coursework in Construction Management, or a closely related field, plus three (3) years of utility construction experience;
OR high‑school diploma or its equivalent, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), plus five (5) years of field experience in utility construction, maintenance, and/or inspection work. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
Special Requirements
Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain it during the term of employment;
Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification and maintain it during the term of employment;
Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed;
Must complete all of the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees classes within nine (9) months of employment;
In the event of a hurricane, major storm, man‑made or natural disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
Physical Requirements Checklist
Can lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 lbs;
In an eight‑hour day may have to stand, walk, sit, and drive 5‑8 hours each;
Must repeatedly perform fine manipulation, foot controls, pulling, pushing, and simple grasping;
Must be able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, dig, jump, kneel, reach, run, smell, and stoop;
Must have color perception, good distant vision, good hearing, good near vision, good speech, other sensory abilities, and use of both eyes;
Other necessary physical activities/traits: N/A
Working Conditions
Working conditions will include: heights above/below ground level; below ground level (ditches, tunnels, etc.); in cold, in dampness or chilly conditions; in heat; in high humidity; in or with dusty conditions; with moving objects or vehicles; with noisy conditions; on or with ladders or scaffolding; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; with chemicals or solvents; with electricity; with feet, legs or hands in water; with fumes, smoke, gases or flames; with grease; with hazardous materials; with lawn grasses, plants, etc.; with odors; with oils; with poor lighting; with poor ventilation; with silica, fiberglass, etc.; with vibrations (jackhammers, etc.); work alone; inside; outside; works closely with others;
