Job Overview HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. This role is for recent or upcoming 2026 high school graduates. A $500 sign‑on bonus is offered to trade entry‑level hires, and a $500 relocation bonus is available for new hires living 50 miles or greater from Newport News, VA.
Responsibilities
Install complex piping systems onboard ships, including more than 23 miles on a submarine and over 230 miles on a carrier.
Read blueprints, fabricate, install, inspect and test piping systems.
Attend Fundamentals of Piping Fitting class and receive ongoing training to enhance knowledge.
Qualifications
18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
Willingness to undergo background investigation and drug screen.
Physical ability to pass an agility test, lift at least 40 pounds, perform overhead work, work outdoors year‑round, and work at extreme heights and in small confined spaces.
Daily actions such as kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb; clean‑shaven for respirator use; willingness to work any shift and overtime as needed.
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
