Roadway Quality Control Technician
At Blythe Development, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, our licensed general contracting firm specializes in site work, road construction and golf course construction across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. We are now 100% Employee Owned. This role is essential to ensuring that all paving operations meet contract specifications and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Monitor all paving operations to confirm that the asphalt product being placed meets all contract specifications.
Co‑ordinate with paving personnel and project inspectors to ensure compliance with specifications.
Obtain core sample specimens from the roadway after completion and deliver them to the quality control laboratory for density testing.
Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with team members.
Work day and night shifts, including weekends; typical hours range from 40 to 70+ per week.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proper use of equipment, hand and power tools, and construction materials in a safe manner.
First aid knowledge and safety precautions.
Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and transmit written and oral instructions.
Dependable attendance and teamwork skills.
Compliance with Blythe Brothers Asphalt LLC policies and employee handbook.
Physical & Environmental Demands Regularly works near moving machinery and tools; requires good manual dexterity, stamina, and the ability to lift, push, pull or carry objects over 80 lb.
Must stand or walk for long periods, climb ladders, and work on hot asphalt surfaces.
Must remain free of drugs and alcohol, including prescription medications that could impair job functions.
Must work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat (up to 105 °F) and cold; will be primarily based in the Charlotte Metro area.
Equipment & Vehicle The candidate must provide a reliable pickup truck capable of hauling asphalt coring equipment; a monetary allowance for vehicle and a gas card are provided. All required tools (excluding the pickup truck) are supplied.
Qualifications
Good math and communication skills.
Ability to pass Roadway Quality Technician certification exams in NC and SC; training will be provided.
