Job Summary The Plant Manager leads a multi‑functional team to meet or exceed production goals while promoting a strong culture of safety and environmental compliance. This role is responsible for overseeing all plant operations, including production, quality, safety, and equipment maintenance. The Plant Manager also plays a key role in driving the organization’s transition toward a world‑class Lean Manufacturing environment.
As a Plant Manager, You Will
Implement, enforce, and continuously improve Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure employee safety and full regulatory compliance
Direct day‑to‑day plant operations to achieve short‑and mid‑term financial and operational objectives aligned with the business plan
Oversee all plant functions, including manufacturing, maintenance, quality, engineering, supply chain, logistics, distribution, accounting, and administration
Establish clear operating objectives focused on cost reduction, quality improvement, new product integration, and optimal equipment utilization
Own and lead strategic initiatives that drive operational excellence while sustaining strong safety and environmental performance
Implement and manage controls for capital expenditures, operating costs, workforce planning, wages, and salaries
Monitor plant performance to ensure production targets, quality standards, and customer commitments are consistently met
Lead, coach, and develop employees to achieve high‑performance manufacturing results using Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools
Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and employee involvement in operational improvement initiatives
Provide hands‑on leadership to resolve critical operational issues, ensuring continuity in production, quality, cost control, and customer service
Drive standardized procedures, work instructions, visual factory systems, and best‑practice methodologies across the plant
Collaborate with R&D to provide feedback on product performance and identify current and future product opportunities
Manage local product engineering resources to deliver timely custom solutions and optimize standard costs
Partner with Sales to ensure the voice of the customer is embedded into manufacturing and operational decisions
Travel as required to support plant operations and broader business needs
Skills and Requirements
7-10 years of plant or general management experience within a manufacturing or re‑manufacturing environment
Experience in highly regulated industries with strict technical, quality, safety, and product performance standards (e.g., pharmaceutical, aerospace, automotive safety, or similar)
Strong working knowledge of P&L ownership, budgeting, forecasting, and financial statements
Proven ability to lead and manage cross‑functional teams, including operations/production, engineering, materials and distribution, maintenance and reliability, quality, human resources, environmental health and safety, and finance/controller functions
Comprehensive knowledge of Lean manufacturing, process optimization, and continuous improvement methodologies, with hands‑on experience implementing Lean initiatives
Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse workforce within a participative, employee‑empowered culture
Experience managing operating costs, capital expenditures, and maintenance budgets with disciplined financial controlStrong working knowledge of safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA compliance, with a documented record of improving safety performance
Experience working in unionized manufacturing environments preferred or required, based on plant location
Exceptional leadership, influence, communication, coaching, and workforce development skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or a related technical discipline; MBA preferred
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent education preferred
