Position Overview The bilingual (Spanish) Operations Supervisor supports the Operations Manager, overseeing and directing the various Operations Team Members who sort and separate raw materials. The main priority is to initiate process improvement and lead within the assigned area. The supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager and oversees a specific department of team members.
Summary of Responsibilities
Operate the facility in full compliance with USM’s Safety Program, EPA Regulations, and OSHA Standards; coordinate safety program facets with outside consultants and facilitate ongoing training with an in‑house safety liaison.
Support all wire processing and de‑ox activities.
Develop strategic thought processes and intuition for key team members, including future operator training programs.
Implement attendance, punctuality, and equipment damage policies; discipline when expectations are not met.
Understand feedstock across customer segments: manufacturing, contractors, facilities, scrap recyclers, recycling centers, obsolete/repair service centers, and utilities.
Coordinate cost‑effective preventative maintenance and overall upkeep; uphold pre‑inspection standards and proactive measures.
Respond to sales team inquiries about scope of services and capabilities.
Envision profitable volume growth to expand the business.
Build a superior workforce to reduce turnover.
Support development of risk mitigation initiatives.
Coordinate day‑to‑day operations, scheduling, and staffing logistics of the assigned area.
Identify challenges, increase efficiencies, and oversee the entire operation.
Create and manage performance management and improvement tracking systems.
Perform new team member orientation, training, and development logistics and record‑keeping.
Assist with team member relations.
Participate in cross‑functional committee facilitation.
Support company‑wide communication and strategic initiatives (ISO 14001/RIOS).
Ensure team member safety, welfare, wellness, health reporting, and services.
Demonstrate competency in all job aspects and company objectives.
Show understanding of company policies, rules, and training.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Scope and Responsibility of Position Develop a cohesive team that delivers marketing commitments consistently; coordinate all maintenance activities related to machinery, equipment, building, and spare parts; develop a production schedule that maximizes throughput while reducing cost per pound; minimize downtime outside required maintenance; participate in night shift checks and balances, ensuring coordinated activities and crossover.
Leadership Role Lead by example; provide training, support, and positive reinforcement to all team members; offer cross‑training, nurturing, and feedback to accelerate development; execute timely employee reviews; communicate professionally at all levels; exhibit urgency in completing orders on time; provide critical feedback on material recoveries and processing limitations; be aware of our SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats); build a network for expertise, guidance, and outsourcing opportunities.
Meet or Exceed Department Goals Efficient production and timely delivery of quality products; consistent low‑cost production in a safe environment; align activities with the Operations Manager regarding capital projects; develop concise cost structures and production standards; establish an incentive program rewarding operational excellence; consistently deliver production numbers in current reporting format; execute prompt and accurate receiving reports and load recoveries; understand material disposition and commodity markets.
Required Characteristics
Fluency in English; basic communication in Spanish.
College degree or equivalent related job experience preferred.
Experience in the metal industry, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment preferred.
Basic understanding of company financial operations.
Hands‑on while training and supporting direct reports.
Participates in continuous personal development.
Stable job history, dependable attendance, trustworthy references.
Ability to work in extreme heat or cold, dusty, dirty, or wet conditions.
Must pass a pre‑employment physical, background, and credit check.
Flexible scheduling to meet business needs.
