This position communicates with ancillary and nursing units to receive schedules for patient appointments, supervises and dispatches transporters to ensure hospital patients arrive on time for scheduled appointments.

Responsibilities

Supervises, trains, and develops department staff.

Dispatches Escorts & Orderly Escorts to transport patients in a timely manner.

Prepares bi‑weekly work schedule for escort department.

Transports patients when needed.

Orders supplies & maintains equipment.

Conducts personal and escort employee development and required training.

Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, appropriate introduction, adaptation of explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style.

Other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.

Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.

Positive interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with nursing unit personnel, ancillary departments, and doctors.

Basic analytical skills necessary to maintain simple logs, records, and lists of such items as incoming and outgoing calls to various areas.

Education High School diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience 1 year experience in a supervisory or leadership role.

Physical and Environmental Demands Very heavy work including lifting objects up to 350 lbs. with appropriate mechanical aids. Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, grab, stand for prolonged periods, and travel throughout and between facilities. The role requires constant walking or standing, and no exposure to blood or bodily fluids. Physical demands exceed sedentary work and may involve repeated lifting, pushing, and pulling. No exposure to communicable diseases except for hazardous medications or waste.
