Empress Emergency Medical Services
EMT – Basic (Entry Level)
Location: Poughkeepsie, NY (Westchester division). Hourly wage $21.00 an hour. Part‑time/full‑time available. Non‑exempt (FLSA).
Summary Provide both emergency and non‑emergency patient transport. Collaborate with supervisors, municipal and county fire, and police departments, other medical staff, patients and families. At direction of Operations, perform or assist with broad patient‑care activities pre‑hospital and in hospital. Provide supportive and definitive care to patients or groups during inter‑facility transport.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care within established treatment protocols and current standard of care.
Provide accurate, pertinent written documentation of all patient care and EMS responses.
Complete all required Empress and New York State paperwork.
Maintain patient‑care equipment, vehicles, supplies, daily logs, and patient‑care records as directed by the company.
Operate Empress vehicles and equipment per company policy.
Maintain a safe, orderly work environment and promote safe work practices for all employees.
Report to work on time; be aware that due to EMS nature, shifts may exceed scheduled time. Mandatory overtime may be assigned.
Work a variety of shifts; may be required to work any of the available shifts.
Follow all Empress policies and procedures.
Attend mandatory continuing medical education, updates, and staff meetings as required by Empress.
Comply with established guidelines for uniform dress and standard equipment regulations.
Assist in public information and educational programs promoting EMTS and Empress services to the community and allied EMS agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Current New York State EMT‑B certification and current CPR certification.
Valid driver’s license; driving record meets company requirements.
Complete all aspects of Empress pre‑employment process (drug screening/background check, physical agility test CPAT).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 19 years of age.
Work Environment Works outdoors and indoors, occasionally exposed to hazardous conditions, blood/body fluids. Requires respirator use, exposure to fumes/odors, extended day, temperature changes. Frequent contact with others, noise, mechanical/electrical equipment. Shift work and mobile environment; confined areas.
Physical Requirements Regular use of hands, fingers, arms; required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, step, stoop, kneel, crouch. Must frequently lift/carry 150 lbs unassisted, 300 lbs as part of two‑person crew. Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus adjustment.
