Summary The product software development team at nLIGHT is charged with delivering world‑class software and firmware for our rapidly growing laser products business. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, with an excellent track record of performance, strong knowledge and experience in software/firmware testing. They will contribute to the qualification and delivery of our laser products and supporting infrastructure. They would join a small team with a big impact, requiring good teamwork in a dynamic environment.

Functions

Test Case Development / Planning

Work with lead engineers and manager to plan for upcoming test needs

Work with development engineers to understand the test needs for new product features and improvements

Write automation/manual test cases to cover functional requirements

Test Execution

Execute automated/manual tests: daily, release, and ad‑hoc / exploratory testing

Identify opportunities for automated testing

Characterize and document issues found during testing

Work with development engineers in efforts to reproduce issues towards determining root cause

Validate defect fixes provided by development engineers

Track and report test execution status

Partner Team Support

Ensure partner teams within the company are using the correct software/firmware versions and assist with upgrades and configurations

Assist with reproducing issues found by partner teams and help characterize/submit defects on their behalf

Lab Support

Responsible for maintaining the team’s hardware and test equipment, in support of the development and test activities. This includes owning software and firmware installations and configurations.

Work with lead engineers and manager to ensure lab readiness for upcoming product test needs

Qualifications

AS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics or related area

6+ years of experience as a software/firmware test technician

Comfortable in working with electrical boards in an ESD environment

Experience testing both PC software and embedded systems

Experience managing the activities of other testers

Accomplished troubleshooting and defect characterization skills

Strong documentation skills: test case writing, process descriptions, etc.

Familiarity with common software defects and test management tools (i.e. Jira, Test Rail).

Ability to update/maintain and create Python test scripts for automation

Compensation and Benefits

Sr Software/Firmware Test Technician: $31.00 - $37.00 per hour

Target Cash Bonus with potential payout of up to 2% of earned wages

120 hours of paid vacation per year, plus paid sick leave and 10 paid holidays
