The College of Continuing Education (CCE) provides training, facilitation, mediation, and conference and event management services, in addition to offering academically grounded programs including noncredit courses, contract education, certificates, credentials, degree completion programs, graduate programs, youth academies, and travel study programs to meet the unique needs of diverse organizations and learners throughout California and the world. Our Instructors/Facilitators and staff design and deliver these programs and services making continuing education a reality for people of all ages including adult learners, traditional aged learners, and youth learners. The many programs complement university offerings to the region and beyond, and extend access to the university. The needs for subject area expertise varies, but include:
Designing and developing comprehensive programs and offerings, including lesson plans and materials, for synchronous and asynchronous environments.
Delivering training, programs, or services using approved curriculum
Facilitating interactive and engaging sessions and offerings for diverse organizations and learners
Assessing learner understanding and adjusting plans as needed
Collaborating with CCE and clients on organizational development solutions
Maintaining up to date knowledge of industry trends and best practices related to the field of expertise
Performing administrative duties as required
Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs
Offerings and services may occur throughout the entire work week and weekends. They may be during days or evenings. Services and offerings are provided in-person at various locations (travel may be required) and/or online.
Instructors/Facilitators are considered staff employees, not Faculty or Lecturers of Sacramento State. This classification is an excluded classification, meaning the position is not represented by a bargaining unit, nor does it include benefits such as medical, dental, vacation leave, etc.
Rank and Salary Salary for Instructors/Facilitators is based on professional experience and educational background and is determined by the hiring department. Hourly salary rates can vary from $25.00/hr to $200.00/hr. Alternatively, some offerings are paid according to a calculation based on the instructor’s rank, the number of units of the course, and the number of students enrolled.
Assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Program Director under the direction of the College Dean.
Required Qualifications Required qualifications vary by offering and may include:
A Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or relevant professional certification. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Experience providing training and/or facilitation to adult audiences in a classroom setting.
Experience and proven expertise in adult learning principles and instructional design.
Knowledge of strong andragogical practices for classroom organization, planning, and effective execution of instruction.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and dynamic presentation skills.
Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work and learning environment.
Subject matter expertise in a specific content area or discipline.
For some assignments: advanced degree and/or terminal degree in content area or related discipline.
Examples of content areas of experience include one or more of the following areas: Leadership, Interpersonal Communications, Change Management, Conflict Management, Process Improvement, Project Management, and Coaching and Mentoring.
