POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Childcare Classroom Floater works closely with the teachers in the assigned classroom to achieve the mission of Countryside YMCA, Step Up to Quality, USDA, Department of Agriculture, Adult and Child Food Program and to meet the requirements of ODJFS Rules. The teacher shares the responsibility of preparing and conducting daily child development activities and helps to maintain a safe, healthy environment for the children in the center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists the Lead Teacher with the overall classroom functions including planning developmentally appropriate activities, assessments, communication, training, risk management and supervision of the children.
Cares for and attends to the needs of children at the facility including dressing, feeding, and monitoring their activities, learning and playtime.
Encourages children's emotional, social, and physical development, and positive self-concept.
Monitors signs of emotional and developmental issues in children and notifies parents, guardians, or authorities of concerns when necessary.
Implements developmentally appropriate disciplinary measures to maintain control in the classroom and facility.
Teaches children personal and healthy habits such as eating, resting, and personal hygiene.
Cleans and sanitizes toys, furniture, and play equipment.
Maintains records on individual children including daily observations, activities, meals served, and medications administered.
Point of Service Meal Counts.
Annual Training on CACFP requirements.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year of prior experience working with children is preferred. Certification in first aid and CPR preferred, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and must be maintained by obtaining recertification as necessary. Must pass a criminal background check.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Excellent communication skills with parents, teachers, and other childcare workers.
Ability to be patient and understanding when working with children and interacting with parents.
Extensive knowledge of childcare principles and procedures.
Ability to relate to children and make the childcare facility an enjoyable atmosphere.
Knowledge of early childhood teaching strategies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Will be exposed to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.
