Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and two (2) years professional experience in counseling, advising, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience using a personal computer, office software such as MS Office and electronic mail.

Requires a valid Ohio driver’s license as travel is required.

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Requires a successful completion of a background check.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Operate effectively in a high‑paced, performance‑driven environment, managing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field

Direct experience in higher education in admissions or academic advising.

Experience working with Ellucian products, such as Colleague, Student Planning, CRM Recruit, and CRM Advise or knowledge of degree audit systems, early alert tools, and/or student success tracking software.

Experience in interpreting college policy, degree program requirements, and course sequencing.

Familiarity with Guided Pathways advising, transfer articulation agreements, and student success initiatives.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage caseloads, outreach efforts, and advising records.

Summary of Duties The academic advisor advises students through a Guided Pathways lens on education and career goals, academic planning, course selection, academic standards, educational strategies, transfer information, and other areas as needed. The advisor participates in planning and delivery of academic advising services that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for students focused on successful completion of their degree or certificate. Advisors develop and maintain strategies to re‑engage non‑completers through targeted outreach and engagement strategies. They are responsible for specific knowledge of academic program requirements and policies as they apply to all students. They will develop and maintain working relationships with other key areas within the college, such as the Student Success Center, Academic Affairs, Student Financial Services, and Student Life.

Location Newark

Work Hours Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
