Description Behavior Support Specialist Position Purpose We are seeking high energy, caring, relationship-driven individuals to join our team as Behavior Support Specialist. Ideal candidates are trauma informed, culturally responsive, calm under pressure, and deeply committed to supporting students in positive, dignity-centered ways. This role focuses entirely on student behavior support, de-escalation, safety, and helping create a welcoming and structured school environment.
Build strong, supportive relationships with students to promote positive behavior and belonging.
Assist with classroom behavioral support to reduce disruptions and maintain a safe, orderly environment.
Respond to student behavior needs throughout the school day using trauma informed, restorative approaches.
Support students through conflict resolution, problem solving, and self-regulation skills.
Supervise students during lunch, hallways, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other non instruction times.
Help maintain student and staff safety during crisis situations and follow all crisis response procedures.
Monitor common areas, reinforce expectations, and assist with transitions throughout the building.
Support communication with teachers, counselors, and administrators as needed regarding student behavior.
Document student behavior incidents and support plans as required.
Provide supervision on field trips and during school events.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students and staff.
Additional Duties Assist student services, counselors, or administration as needed.
Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with diverse students.
Skill in trauma informed care, de-escalation, and restorative practices.
Ability to remain calm and regulated when students are in crisis.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
Physical Requirements Work occurs in standard school and outdoor environments.
Must be able to move throughout the building and respond quickly during safety events.
Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience working with youth preferred, especially in behavior support or student services roles.
