Job Summary
The Shop Helper supports the day-to-day operations of the construction shop by assisting mechanics, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are properly handled. This role is essential to keeping equipment ready, safe, and operational to support field crews.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Assist shop mechanics with routine tasks such as equipment staging, parts handling, and basic maintenance support
Clean, organize, and maintain the shop, yard, and storage areas to ensure a safe and efficient work environment
Wash, fuel, and stage construction equipment, trucks, and trailers
Pick up and deliver parts, materials, and supplies as needed
Perform basic inspections of tools and equipment and report issues to supervisors
Organize tools, parts, and inventory; assist with inventory tracking
Dispose of waste materials properly and follow environmental and safety guidelines
Support loading and unloading of materials and equipment
Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and job site procedures
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Previous experience in a construction shop, mechanical shop, or warehouse environment preferred
Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Ability to safely use hand tools and shop equipment
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred
Forklift or loader experience a plus (or willingness to be trained)
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Comfortable working in a shop and yard environment around heavy equipment
Skills & Competencies

Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Basic organizational skills
Willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed
Work Environment
Combination of shop and outdoor yard work
