Highway Maintenance Worker II - Medium Equipment Operator (61034441)
Position at South Carolina Department of Transportation. Operates medium equipment such as tractors with large mowers, combination tractors with side‑mounted mowers, and tandem dump trucks across a variety of maintenance activities.
Job Responsibilities
Operate and maintain medium equipment like tractors and dump trucks.
Perform vegetation management using complex mowers and powered hand tools.
Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to establish maintenance work zones in compliance with the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide.
Clean litter, debris, and dead animals from the roadway.
Assist in emergency and inclement‑weather operations, including operation of medium equipment.
Be available for extended working hours or 12‑hour shifts as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved equivalence.
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
Physical demands include bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and manipulating objects up to 50 lbs.; walking on uneven terrain; working near traffic and environmental hazards; and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
