Job Description The Bus Driver will transport students to and from school and other sites within designated route(s) and ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a school vehicle. The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of a school bus and for ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedules. The Bus Driver may be assigned to drive wheelchair buses.
Key Responsibilities
Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
Performs pre‑trip inspections on bus and reports any mechanical, electrical, or safety issues to the Transportation Department.
Drives a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops safely.
Maintains a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times.
Obeys all traffic laws.
Ensures safety of all students.
Assists students with getting on and off the bus, when required.
Attends safety meetings.
Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy.
Performs periodical safety drills as required by law; completing necessary reports upon request.
Operates a two‑way radio.
Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
High school or general education diploma preferred.
Excellent driving record.
Possesses Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake, passenger, and school bus endorsements.
Meets all federal, state, and local district requirements for the operation of a school bus.
Passes background check and random drug testing.
Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties.
Ability to work with students of all backgrounds.
Ability to carry out assigned route on time.
Employment Details Reports To: Transportation Supervisor Term Length: 178 days Evaluation: Based on local district policy and Arkansas Department of Education guidelines, performed by the transportation supervisor.
