Trimmer (All Levels)
Townsend Tree Service is hiring Trimmers for all levels. Trimmers work under supervision to maintain trees for public safety, performing trimming, pruning, removal, and care duties while using climbing equipment and tree‑care tools. Each class builds on the previous level, providing increasing responsibility and training opportunities.
Trimmer Classes
Trimmer D/4th Class
– Entry‑level class.
Under supervision, maintains trees, performs tree pruning, tree removal, brush chipping, and stump grinding, and operates climbing gear and equipment. Works with hydraulic tools, power tools, buckets, chippers, and sprayers.
Trimmer C/3rd Class
– Mid‑level class.
All duties of D/4th plus identifies tree species, assesses tree characteristics, and supports risk assessment.
Trimmer B/2nd Class
– Mid‑level class.
All duties of C/3rd plus assists with training other trimmers, conducts due‑diligence and assessment of tree failure risk.
Trimmer A/1st Class
– Top‑level class.
All duties of B/2nd plus provides training to other trimmers and serves as lead in the absence of the Foreperson or General Foreperson.
Duties And Responsibilities (Essential)
Performs tree pruning, tree removal, brush chipping, and stump grinding. Uses climbing hooks, belts, ropes, and ladders. Operates and services equipment and tools including hydraulic tools, power tools, buckets, chippers, and sprayers. Cuts away dead and excess branches from trees. Sprays to treat diseased or unhealthy trees and calibrates spray equipment.
Qualifications – All Trimmer Levels
Understands occupational hazards and safety precautions. Must be semi‑skilled in mechanics. Must complete a proficiency test (climbing, knot tying, chainsaw maintenance). Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. May be required to pass a DOT physical examination and obtain a CDL. Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities. Attention to detail, organizational skills, strong oral and written communication, problem‑solving ability. Meet all physical requirements of the position. Pass all required drug and alcohol screens. 18 years of age or older (21 if CDL required). Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred / Required Experience – Class Specific
Trimmer D/4th & C/3rd Class
– Preferred: Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree‑related equipment.
Trimmer B/2nd & A/1st Class
– Required: Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree‑related equipment.
