Position Type : Full‑time

Hours : 40 hours per week. Overtime includes before/after shift, weekend, holiday and emergency.

FLSA Status : To be determined at offer

Earliest Start Date : Ongoing (immediate)

Job Duration : Expected to continue indefinitely

Salary : $37,440 per year

Purpose Responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned buildings, including public spaces and restrooms. Works in a large area, often with teams or on special assignments. Ensures curb appeal and cleanliness of academic buildings, keeping premises orderly and well‑maintained.

Responsibilities

General cleaning tasks according to established procedures and prescribed equipment. Maintain work schedule, accept work assignments and cooperate with team or work independently.

Follow work rules outlined during orientation and relevant policies; maintain a professional appearance, adhere to the uniform policy, arrive on time and work well with others.

Demonstrate job knowledge and proficiency; attend scheduled training and follow all guidelines.

Safety: Avoid lost‑time injuries by following unsafe‑work practices and procedures; regularly use PPE, safety shoes and safety equipment; perform tasks within safety guidelines; report unsafe conditions promptly.

Security: Secure buildings and rooms on schedule or after cleaning; follow unlocking, locking and alarm procedures; follow key control/access‑card procedures; carry UT ID at all work hours.

Perform work orders, including cleaning and event support; set up table linens and other items for special events.

Respond to emergencies such as floods and perform emergency cleaning; report needed repairs.

Perform overtime as required; mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notice.

Substitute for absent co‑workers upon request; handle event work and vehicle services as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Six months of custodial maintenance experience.

Class "C" driver's license with a current three‑year driving record. If not currently Texas resident, obtain a Texas driver’s license within 30 days of becoming resident.

CDL holders are subject to drug and alcohol testing as required for CDL holders.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

More than one year of custodial experience.

Working Conditions Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment are furnished. Work may occur in all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, near chemical fumes, standard office conditions, biohazards, chemicals, and electrical/mechanical hazards.

Physical Tasks

Use of manual dexterity.

Climbing of stairs and ladders.

Lifting and moving up to 50 lbs.

Additional Working Conditions

Work in any building; stand, walk, lift/move up to 50 lbs.

Vision: close, distance, color, depth.

Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, dust, noise, chemicals, odors.

Uniform required.

Retirement Plan Eligibility The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and requires the position to be at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
