SCHEDULE: Hourly Hours may vary based on program needs
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
SUPERVISION: None
SALARY: $18.50/hr (starting salary for new hires)
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Diploma
Highly Qualified status - HQ status as defined by one of the following standards: 60 semester college credits with a G.P.A. of 2.0 or higher; ParaPro exam (passing score of 460 or higher, with district support)
Preferred: Similar job-related experience, Bilingual
DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION
Assist students with special needs on/off the bus; find and secure seat belts or other securement devices
Assist in the loading/unloading of wheelchair‑bound students and proper securement in the school bus
Be aware of any special needs/conditions of students on the bus
Know emergency procedures that may include evacuation and/or health‑related issues
Assist bus driver in other duties as needed
POSITION SUMMARY The Special Education Paraeducator is responsible for assisting teaching personnel or special services staff in the supervision and instruction of special education students, performing classroom clerical tasks, and meeting students' special health‑care needs while developing their daily living and behavioral skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Supervising/assisting students during instructional and non‑instructional activities
Maintaining awareness and observing students' activities, assessing behavior, and communicating rules, expectations, and consequences
Promoting School District rules, policies, procedures, Mission Statement, and Core Values
Assisting in developing and maintaining a positive learning environment
Adhering to federal, state, and district student data confidentiality and privacy laws
Observing, monitoring, and communicating student progress to teachers
Performing record‑keeping and clerical functions to support the administrator or teacher
Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL FACTORS The role requires standing and/or walking for long periods, may involve exposure to adverse weather; frequent walking, standing, sitting, hearing, speaking, and seeing; light physical work up to 40 pounds of force occasionally.
