NAVY EXCHANGE SERVICE COMMAND (NEXCOM)

(Location: United States-Maine-Kittery).

Job Summary Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge property, including cleaning guest rooms, interior public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, and exterior spaces. Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment to vacuum, mop, dust, scrub, wash, move items, polish and clean various surfaces, remove debris, transport linen, and perform general maintenance.

Responsibilities

Cleans guest rooms and other assigned areas, operating cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, waxers, and polishers.

Empties wastebaskets, dusts, waxes, polishes furniture, cleans walls, partitions, vents, and other surfaces.

Washes and disinfects bathroom and kitchen areas, including tubs, tile, walls, commodes, sinks, and appliances.

Maintains and checks functionality of in-room electronics and amenities (TVs, alarm clocks, phones).

Handles linens: removes, replaces, inspects bed linens, mattresses, and pull‑out sofas.

Greets and welcomes guests, maintaining outstanding guest relations and ensuring privacy and security.

Vacuum, mop, and shampoo corridors, stairways, laundry areas, patios, and balconies; performs deep cleaning as required by program standards.

Makes minor repairs to equipment, reports major repairs needed, and keeps supervisors informed of room status and guest needs.

Cleans and inspects exterior spaces such as parking lots and passageways.

Loads/unloads trucks and vans, assists vendors with receiving supplies, and uses hand tools (hammers, pliers, box cutters) for delivery and storage.

Manages key assignments and returns all keys at shift end.

Reports lost and found items immediately to the housekeeping supervisor.

Sets up, cleans up, and replenishes a complimentary self‑service breakfast bar and manages food handling certifications.

Completes all required safety and security training, applying knowledge of blood‑borne pathogen safety measures.

Performs laundry operations as needed.

May require a valid state driver's license to travel to other lodging facilities.

May require the NHG housekeeping certification within six months and other professional certifications.

Qualifications

No experience required.

High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

Physical requirements: moderate physical effort moving furniture and using hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment.

May require a valid state driver's license.

May require NHG housekeeping certification within 6 months of employment.
