Job Title: Entry‑Level Data Center Technician
Location: Altoona, Iowa
Employment Type: Contract
Overview Our client has multiple openings for entry‑level technicians eager to learn a new trade: Structured Cabling. If you have experience working with your hands—whether in landscaping, construction, general labor, or material handling—this is your chance to transition into a growing technical field. You’ll assist senior technicians and team leads in building out network infrastructure, including:
Pulling cable and fiber
Learning color codes
Punching down and terminating fiber
Installing cable trays and pathways
Building server racks
Key Responsibilities
Drop cable down walls using fish tape or other methods; route cable through data centers
Perform pre‑termination procedures: organize, dress, and label cables; determine length and slack
Suspend and support cable using trays, J‑hooks, D‑rings, bridal rings, trapeze
Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables
Perform fire‑stopping procedures on firewalls; install sleeves and pull cable through penetrations
Terminate low‑voltage devices
Follow prints and complete all required paperwork accurately and on time
Adhere to company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards
Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
Basic knowledge or willingness to learn: CAT5/CAT6 cabling, telecommunications, punch‑down, terminations, cable trays
Comfortable working with tools and performing physical tasks
Preferred Background
Hands‑on experience in landscaping, general labor, material handling, or construction
Trade school graduates seeking practical experience
Additional Qualifications
Punctual, reliable, and a team player
Flexible with hours; may work 10‑hour days if needed

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 – $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
