Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/Primary – Grades 1, 2, 3. Location: Philip’s Academy Charter School of Paterson (High‑Needs School).

Nature and Scope of Job Under the supervision of the Assistant Principal, the Elementary School Teacher serves as the instructional leader of their classroom. The teacher will create, manage, and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that enhance student development and mastery of learning objectives. Philip’s teachers participate in extensive professional development, collaborate with faculty and staff, promote rigorous learning opportunities, and look out for the collective and individual interests of Philip’s students and the school’s greater community.
Job Goal
Provide an approved Elementary School education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth.
Help pupils develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education.
Maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.
Performance Responsibilities
Develop lesson plans and classroom learning activities.
Work to achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district educational goals by promoting active learning using the board‑adopted curriculum.
Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
Set specific objectives in lesson preparation and ensure these objectives are achieved.
Plan age‑appropriate activities that meet the needs, interests, and ability levels of all pupils.
Monitor academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives.
Maintain records of pupil progress in class record books or approved forms.
Identify pupil needs and provide appropriate instruction.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to create a conducive learning climate.
Budget class time effectively.
Design written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and pupil progress.
Utilize community resources to enhance the instructional program.
Cooperate with other professional staff to assess and resolve learning problems.
Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and other professional growth activities.
Participate in school‑level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups.
Other
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
Perform other duties such as lunch duties, recess duties, and additional responsibilities within the scope of employment and certification, as assigned.
Qualifications
Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and Elementary School Education/Elementary School with Subject Matter Specialization Endorsement or eligibility.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Current residency in New Jersey approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment.
1–2 years of teaching experience preferred.
Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.

Effective communication in English; bilingual is a plus.

CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certification or obtain certification upon hire.
Complete a Tuberculosis test, physical examination, and provide physician documentation.
Physical ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry students up to 70 lb.
Have dependable transportation.
